Depression After Bariatric Surgery

How are you doing? Honestly, is everything okay?

It’s okay if your answer is no.
It’s also okay if your answer is I don’t know.

Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed.
Maybe you feel like you’ve lost yourself in this whole process.
Maybe you feel numb.
Maybe you’re tired of friends and family asking ‘what’s wrong?’ because you honestly don’t know what’s wrong. It’s more complicated than that.
Maybe thoughts of regret are creeping in.
Maybe you feel like you’re drowning.

We don’t know where you are in your journey, but if you’re hurting, we want you to know that you’re not alone in what you’re feeling.

Many patients suffer with depression or depression like symptoms after surgery.

I felt compelled to write this post today because I had 3 clients cry in my office today alone, and I’ve had 2 emails this week with the subject lines of ‘Depressed’ and ‘I feel like I’ve lost myself’.

My heart breaks every time.

We definitely don’t have all of the answers, but please PLEASE continue reaching out when you need help.

Support is available. If you’re hurting, we recommend you reach out to a local psychologist or call a national helpline 1-833-456-4566 (for Canadians).

You matter more than you know.
